LAURA HELLFELD
Associate editor and Department Guide - Well-being, lifestyle, and Food.

Hello, and thank you for having a read about Autistic Revolution and learning more about me.
Bringing together lived experience, nursing education, and public health service
I’m Laura Hellfeld, and I'm proud to be part of the wonderful team that brings you Autistic Revolution. I support the team as one of the Associate Editors and also as the Department Guide of the Food & Nourishment section and the Lifestyle and Wellbeing section. I also find lots of joy in guiding AR’s community events.
Through the community events, we are able to come together in learning, fun, and mutual support.
Outside of AR, I work as an independent Nurse and Sleep Consultant to support neurodivergent and disabled community members. Some of my favourite areas to learn and educate in are food and eating, sleep, toileting, hygiene and PDA. More recently, I have co-authored the book ‘Creating Safe Spaces for Autistic People’ and the children’s book ‘Gabby’s Glimmers’ that looks at one kiddo’s relationship with food.
"When im not working, you can likley find me having a walkabout in the Dales. Oh, and of course, also out looking for second-hand, oversized woolly jumpers".

Laura is a dedicated Nurse and Sleep Consultant committed to assisting our neurodivergent community. As an educator, public speaker, and co-author of "Creating Spaces for Autistic People," Laura is passionate about health and mental health topics. They particularly enjoy how to support individuals with what are known as "self-care tasks," such as nutrition, sleep, and hygiene. Laura believes that the essence of Autistic wellness lies in fostering connections through friendship, leisure, and learning. This belief motivates them to frequently organize community events for Autistic Revolution and volunteer to promote inclusive activities.
PROJECTS
Gabby’s Glimmers - a rhyming children’s book about Gabby who is a creative, board game playing and scary-loving kiddo that adores a jam sandwich. Come and see how Gabby’s jam sandwich is so much more than just their favourite food.
Creating Safe Spaces for Autistic People – my and Scott Neilson’s book to help services be truly more inclusive of our community members and for identifying people and families to have a guide to use with service providers
